Job description

Industry: Transportation / Trucking / Logistics

Reports to: CEO / Strategic Management

Location: Remote (US-based operations)

Employment Type: Full-time

🎯 Role Summary

  • The Operations Controller is responsible for ensuring operational reality matches reported reality.
  • This is not an execution role, not a people-management role, and not a coordination position.
  • The core purpose of this role is to ensure that:
  • leadership decisions are based on accurate, verified operational information, and recurring operational failures are detected and corrected systemically before they cause financial or operational damage.

🧩 Key Responsibilities

🔹 1️⃣ Operational Information Integrity

  • Verify accuracy and completeness of reports from Dispatch, Safety, Fleet, and Back Office
  • Identify discrepancies between reported status and actual operational conditions
  • Reject unverified, optimistic, or unsupported updates
  • Escalate operational risks and anomalies directly to executive leadership

🔹 2️⃣ Early Risk & Failure Detection

  • Monitor operational patterns and recurring issues
  • Detect failures before they result in financial loss or service disruption
  • Track deadlines, task ownership, and escalation points
  • Identify «everything looks fine» zones with insufficient proof

🔹 3️⃣ Ownership & Accountability Control

  • Ensure every process and recurring issue has one clearly defined owner
  • Track whether corrective actions are actually implemented (not just planned)
  • Identify repeat failures and unresolved root causes
  • Provide leadership with facts and trends — not explanations or excuses

🔹 4️⃣ After-Action Reviews (AAR)

  • Conduct structured After-Action Reviews following incidents such as:
  • Missed loads
  • Compliance violations
  • Financial losses
  • Driver incidents

Focus on:

  • Expected vs actual outcomes
  • System failure points
  • Required process or rule changes
  • Ensure AAR conclusions result in real operational changes

🔹 5️⃣ Operational Discipline Enforcement

  • Enforce reporting standards and escalation protocols
  • Monitor response times, follow-ups, and accountability

Identify and escalate:

  • Missing reports
  • Delayed responses
  • Disappearing or non-responsive staff
  • Maintain operational discipline across remote teams
