In August 2021, NHS blood donation service employee Lorna Rook, along with colleagues, took part in a team training session during which they were required to undergo testing based on the Myers-Briggs typology (a test for determining personality type, developed based on the works of Carl Jung - ed. note). In this version, the tests linked personality types to famous characters from the space saga, Odditycentral reports.

At that moment, Lorna received a personal call and left the room. While she was gone, a colleague filled out the questionnaire for her and «assigned» her the identity of Darth Vader.

For some, such a comparison would please their ego, because in the test description, Vader was presented as a «purposeful leader capable of uniting a team».

But for Lorna, it became an unpleasant joke. The woman said that after that she felt unpopular, unwanted in the team, and the following month she quit.

In the lawsuit, Lorna indicated that the comparison with the iconic antihero was one of the main reasons that forced her to leave. She also accused the employer of unfair dismissal, disability discrimination and failure to meet obligations to provide decent working conditions.

Judge Catherine Ramsden found that the association with Darth Vader in the context of a personality test caused harm worthy of compensation.

«Darth Vader is a legendary villain from the Star Wars saga, and identifying with his personality is an insult»,— she noted in the decision.

However, Lorna’s other claims, including those regarding discrimination and working conditions, were rejected. But the company is still forced to pay her 28,989.61 pounds (approximately $39,000) for moral damages.

Work.ua reported that a man in India went through 7 rounds of interviews and 2 rounds of assessments, but was ultimately denied employment. He billed the company for the time spent, which they paid without any problems.
