Brief description of the open position:

The UX/Creative Design Manager will be responsible for leading high-performance project driven UX Design and Creative Design teams with strong focus on recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring and performance management of creative design resources. You must have a proven track record of success, leading teams of designers with a strong sense of personal leadership, team mentorship, and collaboration. This job requires strong design, collaboration and communication skills to provide leadership and expertise on all aspects of personnel and team management, ensuring the success of you and your teams' efforts. In order to effectively lead these teams you should have strong communication and motivation skills, expertise with various design approaches/styles, and extensive experience and knowledge of web and creative design techniques.

You will:

  • Responsible for resource allocation to ensure designers with the right skill sets are assigned to appropriate client projects while ensuring adequate project staffing;
  • Track and report on resource utilization identifying any resource imbalances and meeting teams' billable utilization goals;
  • Lead team-building efforts and, where applicable, facilitate cross functional team-building to cultivate collaboration and cooperation between functional groups;
  • Lead and grow the design organization, building a highly professional and motivated group;
  • Create a solution-oriented and thinking culture in design teams;
  • Manage and mentor all members of both design teams;
  • Collaborate with engineering managers to ensure consistency and alignment between engineering and design groups;
  • Responsible for implementing, managing, and refining software development life cycle processes for the delivery of multiple and concurrent customer projects;
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing (e.g., conducting internal training and writing knowledge base articles) and other internal communication forums;
  • Ensure the adherence to organizationally defined design practices and procedures;
  • Collaborate with project and account managers to prioritize customer deliverables and to deliver projects on time, on budget, while meeting/exceeding customer expectations;
  • Collaborate with management on the design vision for the organization, working to achieve the best design solutions for the customers' needs;
  • End-to-end design process/methodology owner. Define and enforce standards for design activities, including overall design approach, effort estimations, code reviews, release management.

You have:

  • Minimum five years of UX and/or creative design experience;
  • Three plus years of design team manager experience (10+ team members);
  • Significant experience with managing medium-to-large design projects utilizing a variety of project management methodologies like Agile/Scrum, RUP, PMBOK or Waterfall;
  • Experience with design for web-based applications;
  • Must be an independent, self-motivated leader who is able to motivate people, instill accountability and achieve results;
  • Fluent spoken and written English communication skills;
  • Experience with interviewing, on-boarding and coaching of designers;
  • Experience in managing geographically distributed teams;
  • Impeccable leadership, organizational, analytical and time management skills;
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as exemplified by writing process documents and effective intra- and inter-group communications.

Good to have:

  • Experience in designing ecommerce solutions is highly desired;
  • Working and managing within a small-company and/or growth environment;
  • Design lead and/or design team manager for leading system integrator.
