Senior Power BI Developer (m/f/d)

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Power BI Developer to design, develop, and optimize enterprise-grade BI solutions. You will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and architects to transform complex data into actionable insights using Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

Power BI Development

• Design and develop advanced Power BI dashboards and reports
• Build and optimize semantic models using best-practice star schema
• Develop complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and KPIs
• Implement Power Query (M) transformations and data cleansing
• Optimize report performance for large datasets

Data Modeling & Architecture

• Design scalable data models aligned with business processes
• Implement row-level security (RLS) and data governance concepts
• Collaborate with data engineers on ETL and data pipelines
• Ensure consistency between source systems, data warehouse, and BI layer

Integration & Data Sources

• Connect Power BI to multiple data sources:
  • SQL Server / Azure SQL
  • Azure Synapse, Data Lake
  • APIs, Excel, SharePoint
• Manage scheduled refreshes and incremental refresh strategies
• Monitor dataset health and refresh failures

Performance & Optimization

• Analyze and optimize DAX and model performance
• Reduce report load times and memory consumption
• Apply best practices for Power BI Premium capacity (if applicable)

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Translate business requirements into technical BI solutions
• Support users with ad-hoc analysis and report enhancements
• Provide guidance and best practices to junior developers
• Create technical documentation and user guides

Required Skills & Experience

• Several years of experience as a Power BI Developer
• Deep expertise in:
  • Power BI Desktop & Power BI Service
  • DAX (advanced measures, time intelligence)
  • Power Query (M)
• Strong knowledge of data modeling (star/snowflake schemas)
• Solid SQL skills and experience with relational databases
• Experience working with large datasets and enterprise BI environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with Azure Data Platform (ADF, Synapse, Data Lake)
• Knowledge of Power BI Premium and capacity management
• CI/CD pipelines for Power BI (Azure DevOps, Git)
• Experience with SSIS, SSAS Tabular, or other ETL tools
• Familiarity with data governance and data quality frameworks
