Driver to Defence Attaché (100%)

As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in political, economic, and defence affairs.

The Embassy of Switzerland is seeking a highly motivated Driver to support the Defence Attaché (DA). The Driver supports the DA’s mission by ensuring the safe, secure, and efficient transportation of personnel and sensitive documents while maintaining high flexibility and situational awareness in a dynamic security environment. This also includes conducting field trips across all areas of operation, including volatile regions and high-risk environments.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Drive the DA and relevant delegations safely and efficiently, including during missions in high-risk or wartime conditions using armoured vehicles and convoy procedures;
• Monitor and assess the local security situation to support route planning and safe movement;
• Conduct secure courier duties for sensitive documents in compliance with DAO procedures;
• Provide oral translation between Ukrainian and English during missions, meetings (as needed);
• Conduct vehicle checks, maintenance coordination, and readiness of assigned vehicles;
• Support the DA in logistical tasks and mission preparations as required;
• Support the DA regarding local living conditions, assisting with local arrangements and minor practical matters;
• Provide expertise for route planning and movement risk assessment for the embassy’s security team;
• Serve as replacement or augmentee within the embassy’s driver pool in cases of absences or operational shortfalls with approval of DA.

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license (C1) with a clean driving record; experience in driving armoured vehicles and operating in convoy settings under restrictive security conditions;
• Minimum 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably for diplomatic missions, international organisations, or security-sensitive environments;
• Experience in radio communication procedures and basic vehicle maintenance;
• Good understanding of the local and regional security environment, including monitoring air threats and other relevant developments at operational locations;
• Fluency in Ukrainian and English, with the ability to translate orally into English as required during missions and daily activities (knowledge of German and/or French is an asset);
• Basic IT skills (email, messenger apps) to support coordination tasks;
• Experience in handling and transporting sensitive or classified documents, ensuring compliance with security procedures;
• High flexibility and availability, including the ability to work irregular hours, nights, and weekends according to operational needs;
• Compliance with procedures for secure document transport and personnel safety.
