Job description
GRC are policy makers, lawyers and development experts dedicated to promoting accountability and strengthening justice systems through the application of international law. With ongoing operations in some of the world’s most complex legal and security environments, Global Rights Compliance continues to provide specialised legal expertise, policy solutions, and strategic advisory services to uphold justice and strengthen the rule of law globally. Mobile Justice Teams (MJTs) are groups of local and international experts, and practitioners collaborating with, and in support of, local justice actors, such as Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) and Regional Prosecutor Offices (RPOs), to advance Ukraine’s capacity to investigate and build complex command-level cases into international crimes through tailored support and the institutionalisation of international standards and best practices. The MJTs are organised across thematic areas to address context-specific and cross-cutting legal issues. The teams work in the most affected regions of Ukraine to provide advisory and case-building support, focusing on supporting prosecutors and investigators in their investigations and prosecutions.
We are seeking a Legal Researcher to join our team in Ukraine. The Legal Researcher assists the MJTs with legal research related to a specific category of international crimes (e.g. crimes against humanity, genocide, and aggression) or a designated thematic area within the team’s mandate (e.g. air strikes, detention-related crimes, pillage of essential resources, SGBV, crimes against and affecting children, occupation-related crimes).

The Role
- Assists in legal and factual research.
- Collect information for legal purposes.
- Prepare research summaries in support of case files.
- Contribute to the development of the team’s work by helping identify potential areas for future activity.
- Provide other assistance, as necessary, to the team.
Your Background
- Ideally 1 year of generalist work experience, including ideally 6 months legal related experience.
- Working towards a relevant law degree.
- Good understanding of the Ukrainian justice system, including criminal and criminal procedural legislation.
- Good knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law is desirable.
- Flexible and proactive attitude, proactive, anticipating problems, and solutions orientated.
- Professional and sensitive approach working with highly sensitive material.
- Fluency in English and Ukrainian, written and verbal skills.
- Fluency or competency in Russian is desirable.
