Client: US K–12 EdTech SaaS platform for science learning, 150–200 school district accounts. Team of 6–10 engineers.
• Designed, built and owned Report Builder, a standalone self-service reporting service that replaced manual
developer-run exports with user-configured reports, used daily by teachers and administrators.
• Engineered a flexible report engine with ~10 configurable content blocks, multiple metrics per block, 7 grouping
levels and dynamic report templates tailored to each teacher's classes and activity.
• Designed an algorithm that re-scopes shared reports on the fly to the recipient's role across 6–7 user roles, so a
shared report never exposed data beyond the recipient's permissions.
• Built and maintained an asynchronous aggregation pipeline on MySQL (nightly full aggregation plus 30-minute
incremental updates for active classes) that kept reports responsive for ~3 years as data volumes grew.
• Led the migration of reporting workloads from MySQL to Amazon Redshift and rewrote all report queries, cutting
generation time from 60+ seconds (browser timeouts at district and school level) to a few seconds for any report on
tens of GB of activity data.
• Increased the refresh rate of all reporting data from once a day to every 30 minutes and retired the MySQL
aggregation pipeline, simplifying the reporting architecture.
• Built the automated assignment scheduling engine behind the platform's pacing feature, generating thousands of
