English tutor ; Translator (Oral & Written)

from 08.2015 to now (10 years)
Self-Employed, Одеса (Освіта, наука)

I've been teaching people of all ages for over 8 years now, and the amount of experience I've gotten from it is tremendous. Aside from upgrading and increasing the number of my teaching strategies, I immensely improved my ability to deal with all kinds of people and create a personal approach for any type of person. Simply put - I learned how to work with people in a way that benefits us both to the fullest.
This improved the quality of my translation as well. I've been translating both orally and in writing (I do prefer to translate orally though - it's much more interactive and engaging) for people from various backgrounds (which quite often requires very niche vocabulary - marine, judicial, medical, etc). Although most of the time I work in English, my knowledge of Chinese language frequently comes in handy just as much, especially since a lot of the businesses for which I'd translate usually have a lot to do with Chinese factories/companies (or it could just be my luck I suppose).

Education

Международный гуманитарный университет

Международное право и перевод (английский язык) - бакалавр, с отличием ; Филология (Английский и китайский языки) - магистр, с отличием, Одесса
Higher, from 2017 to 2022 (5 years)

My Bachelor's degree is a double major. I studied both International Law and the English language, allowing me to acquire proficient knowledge in both legal and linguistic areas. Thanks to this, I am fluent both in translation from/into English, and in several branches of law.
My Master's degree is in Philology, specializing in English and Chinese languages. Needless to say, over these 1,5 years of studying my fluency in both languages has gone up, offering me a greater insight into the intricacies of both of these languages' grammar peculiarities and vocabulary nuances.

Additional information

I've been using English for as long as I can remember. My current level is C2; I'm always ready to prove it. Thanks to constant communication with people whose native language happens to be English, such as Americans, British, or Australians (all of my friends are there, isn't that sad?), I am extremely fluent in spoken English.

However, I must note - simply sprinkling some slang all over your speech doesn't make you a good interlocutor. One must always speak and present oneself accordingly - after all, you wouldn't talk to a business partner or a party of a contract the same way you would to your friend. Therefore, I spent a great deal of my time learning Academic English, Business English, Commercial English (pretty much the same thing as the one listed before), etc. to perfect my skills and my ability to present myself in the best way possible in a work environment - or any other professional environment for that matter.

I've been working as an English tutor for 8 years now, teaching people of all ages and helping them better comprehend all the little details of the language. I have a knack for teaching, I love making even the hardest pieces of knowledge understandable and easily accessible to everybody. I've taught English language to both Slavic and foreign students (especially Chinese pupils - I've taught several Chinese people English over a year, including children, who never seem to sit still). In addition - I'm great with kids, being able to make the material entertaining, yet educational, putting a smile on their faces, all while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Since 2014 I have been learning Chinese. Up to this day, I keep on practicing and improving it in every possible way. My current HSK level is a solid 3, a beginner 4.
To be fair, however - I'm interested in all languages and always have been. You could say I'm a 'parrot' - learning languages comes naturally to me, so I'm open to learning any new one.

Among my personal qualities, I can highlight being excessively self-motivated and persistent, responsible, and showing great reliability.
One of my biggest strengths is that I'm a very quick learner - and very eager to do so (I just love learning overall - I loved college because of it).
I also possess some leadership qualities, e.g. great honesty (I don't sugarcoat) and integrity.
I'm good with people - I have a way with words, which makes negotiations an easy task for me.
I am proud of the fact that right after getting into college I became one of the best students of the whole faculty and got both of my diplomas with honors.

In my opinion, hard work and the desire to grow are always rewarded. Therefore, I am assured that my knowledge, abilities, and skills hold a great price, and do deserve recognition.
