Duties:

Serves as Economic Specialist responsible for a portfolio of issues related to the critically important bilateral economic relationship with Ukraine. Analyzes developments in assigned sectors drawn from macro-finance and banking; energy; science and technology; trade and investment; commercial and business development; sanctions policy; agriculture; infrastructure; civil aviation; and economic reform. Possesses expert knowledge in the areas assigned, and relating to Ukraine’s major trading partners, including the EU, and China; maintains high-level contacts with major Ukrainian and international companies, senior Government of Ukraine officials and the NGO sector. Represents the Embassy at key GOU meetings and conferences, drafts reports, and briefs Embassy’s senior management.

  • FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS APPLICANTS MUST MEET EITHER OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2 TO QUALIFY.
  • Option 1
  • EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of relevant experience working on economic, energy, or finance issues at a professional level in the public sector, private sector, or academic institutions. This must include experience translating and interpreting.
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields is required: economics, energy, political science, international relations, and/or journalism.
  • Option 2
  • EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years of relevant experience working on economic, energy, or finance issues at a professional level in the public sector, private sector, or academic institutions. This must include experience translating and interpreting.
  • EDUCATION: Two years of college/university studies is required.
  • JOB KNOWLEDGE: Thorough comprehension of political, economic, social and cultural dynamics; comprehensive understanding of public and private sector economics.
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Proven analytical skills. Advanced word processing and spreadsheet skills. Developed public speaking skills. Ability to draft English language letters, memorandum, and reports with minimal editing. Ability to perform accurate written and oral translations of complex technical texts.
