Work experience

Editor

from 06.2010 to 06.2015 (5 years)
Frontex, Warsaw, Poland (EU Border-Control Agency)

As editor for the EU's border control agency my duties centred on
creating, developing and running a 12-page monthly publication on
border control, migration and related issues. The Border Post was
compiled monthly from a combination of open source and in-house
materials as a PDF distributed by email to border guard, law
enforcement and civil service readers across Europe and beyond.
In the five years since its creation it has become a valuable news
service and common media platform for the border guards and border
police of the EU's 28 member states providing a much-needed element
of Frontex's mission to create a “common European border guard
culture”. It was available to at least 60,000 readers through European
police Intranets including in Germany and Denmark, as well as being
sent direct to decision makers at ministerial and EU policy level and
members of the intelligence and security services.
In addition, I was responsible for creating regular web content in the
form of feature-length stories on areas of Frontex activity, such as
search-and-rescue at sea, clandestine entry of unauthorised persons,
refugee and human rights news, the latest border security and
surveillance technologies, public policy, EU law and many other areas
of importance to law enforcement and border control. Writing bespoke
stories and interviews on behalf of the Executive Director for external
publications was also within my area of responsibilities as were press
releases, briefing notes and information packs.
In addition to the above, and beyond my official responsibilities, I also
managed the production of a book on best practice in border control
and a detailed brochure explaining the agency's many and wideranging
areas of activity.
As part of the Information and Transparency team I also contributed to
the creation of multi-annual communications strategies and action
plans for key stakeholders and the general public alike, organisation of
high-profile international events, media briefings, press conferences
and other team activities as required.
