Analysis of insurance risks of launching phone insurance in Ukraine
Describe: Provided a data-driven justification for launching a new smartphone insurance product in Ukraine. Analyzed 145k+ theft records (MVD Ukraine, 2021–
2026), combining market research with actuarial calculations to minimize insurer risks.
Tasks:
Data Cleaning & ETL: Cleared and transformed a 1M+ row dataset using BigQuery and Python; handled date anomalies and unified brand nomenclature across
inconsistent records.
Risk Analysis: Evaluated real risk factors by correlating theft frequency with market share (Mobile Vendor Market Share) to identify disproportionately targeted
brands.
Geo-analytics: Identified priority marketing zones (Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia regions) and calculated seasonal crime peaks to optimize advertising spend.
Fraud Prevention: Analyzed the latency between incidents and police reports to establish a 72-hour claim eligibility limit, reducing potential insurance fraud.
Result: Developed an interactive insurance premium calculator in Tableau incorporating brand risk (e.g., Xiaomi at 34% risk), device value, and insurer loading.
Identified a declining theft trend and peak seasonal windows, confirming a favorable market entry timing.
