Financial controller

Caritas-Spes Ukraine, in cooperation with Caritas Norway, is seeking an experienced professional to provide financial control and advisory support for humanitarian projects in Ukraine and Moldova.

This position is ideal for someone who can not only work confidently with budgets, reports, and financial data, but also identify risks, areas for improvement, and effective management solutions.

You will work in an international environment, collaborating with teams and partners in Ukraine, Moldova, and Norway, and contributing to the transparent, high-quality, and accountable management of humanitarian programme resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Caritas Norway’s Financial Controller in Oslo, the organisation’s representative in Kyiv, and partner organisations in Ukraine and Moldova.
• Ensure high-quality financial management, reporting, and compliance with Caritas Norway’s systems and donor requirements, including those of Norad.
• Monitor budget implementation, expenditure rates, financial variances, and risks.
• Analyse the causes of financial deviations and propose corrective actions together with programme teams.
• Improve partners' financial systems, internal controls, procedures, and workflows.
• Advise project teams on ongoing financial management decisions during project implementation.
• Contribute to improved quality, cost-efficiency, transparency, and accountability across humanitarian programmes.
• Conduct monitoring visits within Ukraine, including to eastern and southern regions, as well as to Moldova.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Holds a university degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
• Has at least three years of relevant professional experience.
• Is fluent in Ukrainian.
• Has English language proficiency at B2 level or above and is confident communicating both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrates strong analytical skills and the ability to work with large volumes of financial information.
• Has advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Is able to identify financial risks and systemic weaknesses and propose practical solutions.
• Is comfortable working in an international and multicultural environment.
• Is willing to travel within Ukraine and to Moldova.

The Following Will Be Considered an Advantage:

• Experience in the financial management of projects funded by institutional donors.
• Knowledge of donor reporting, supporting documentation, and internal control requirements.
• Experience in the humanitarian, charitable, non-profit, or development sector.
• International professional experience.
• Experience with accounting or financial management systems.
• Knowledge of Romanian.
