Key responsibilities:
Organizational: Supervision of the team under the direction of the Team Lead, engagement with prosecutorial and other law-enforcement authorities, allocation of tasks among team members, quality control and review of deliverables prior to submission to the Team Lead.
Substantive: Drafting case reviews and providing legal and investigative support to the prosecution offices on criminal proceedings, including assessing the appropriateness of charges under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and their consistency with applicable international criminal law and international humanitarian law standards; providing legal advice to the Regional Prosecutor’s Offices and the Office of the Prosecutor General on other ICL/IHL-related matters; designing and delivering capacity-building training programmes for prosecutors and investigators.
Highlights
Trainings:
-Co-organized and co-delivered two landmark workshops on the investigation and prosecution of environmental war crimes for representatives of regional prosecution offices and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
-Co-organized and delivered a workshop on international humanitarian law for the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office;
-Co-organized and co-delivered specialized case-building training for regional prosecution offices and the Office of the Prosecutor General on the investigation and legal qualification of the war crimes of appropriation and pillage of natural resources.
Provision of legal advice:
-Provided legal and investigative support to the Kherson Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office in the investigation into the appropriation of Askania-Nova, including reviewing case materials, advising on the legal qualification, and developing the investigation plan.
-Provided legal and investigative support to the Kharkiv Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office in the investigation into the destruction of the Oskil dam that resulted in the issuance of two notices of suspicion to the high-ranking commanders for the crime of ecocide and other war crimes.
