Main description/Purpose of Role:

The Technical Manager leads a maintenance & utilities departments that includes front line supervisors and a team of mechanics. She or he is responsible for people and team development, motivating the team and ensuring quality performance. Responsibilities include cost efficiency, continuous improvement on processes, service, and safety for an plant level activity related to engineering field. This role will also include achieving site performance for uptime, equipment reliability, overall equipment effectiveness, and building/grounds maintenance. To manage overall operation of the powerhouse, utility tunnels, the production and distribution of utilities (steam, chilled water, natural gas, domestic water, high and regular voltage electrical systems, all sewer systems), the maintenance of these systems within all properties and the Energy Management Program. This role will also coach team members to utilize the processes and facilitate problem solving on the floor.

Major Tasks, Accountabilities and Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall management of all aspects of maintenance & utilities
  • Provides direct and indirect guidance to the Operations, Environmental Health & Safety Supervisor, Project Coordinators, Project Team Leaders, Subcontract Administrator, Administrative support and others, including third-party support, in all areas of engineering aspects
  • Maintain close liaison and interaction with associated functions like Quality, Manufacturing, Finance, Shipping, HR etc to deliver on AOP
  • Sustain effective asset maintenance plans consistent with asset utilization
  • Maintain effective systems for documenting equipment downtime to enable Pareto analysis, DT 5 implementation, equipment history cards etc
  • Ensure equipment uptime consistent with AOP requirement on volume/cost/productivity/product quality
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures, and activity reporting systems to ensure efficient and effective service levels as well as compliance with all contractual requirements
  • Develop and implement condition-based monitoring system for equipment consistent with uptime requirements in a flat seasonality market
  • Identify and develop vendors for spares supply
  • Ensure that front line supervisors and teams within the field are developed and held accountable for achieving individual, team and business unit goals
  • Develop team to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance goals
  • Builds people capability through effective employee relations, hiring, training, and communication for front-line hourly and salaried personnel
  • Organize and facilitate work team meetings (examples: pre-shift, roundtables, etc.)
  • Regular and predictable attendance at the work site
  • Initiate and implement projects
  • Conduct presentations and formal training programs
  • Seek out and implement best practices
  • Solve daily operational issues
  • This role requires regular presence on the plant floor
  • This role occasionally requires lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • This role requires occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
  • This role may operate manufacturing equipment occasionally
  • This role may require off-shift and weekend work
  • This role may require some travel (less than 5%)


  • Engineering Graduate
  • 3−5 years of experience in Maintenance with emphasis in Utilities like Boilers, Refrigeration, Compressors, Cooling Water systems etc
