Finance Officer / Accountant

📍 Kyiv 🕒 Full-time (hybrid) 👤 Reports to: Chief Accountant

Camino is a Ukrainian NGO working to strengthen communities through WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), protection, and energy services. Our mission is to empower communities and support resilience, dignity, and self-sufficiency.

The organization was established in response to the 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine to address urgent needs of frontline communities. Today Camino combines humanitarian assistance with technical expertise and capacity building, particularly in the water sector.

Position Summary

The Finance Officer / Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting and tax records in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, Camino financial procedures, and donor requirements.

The role supports financial transparency and accountability through proper bookkeeping, documentation control, and financial reporting for grant-funded projects.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Management

  • Maintain full accounting records in accordance with Ukrainian accounting and tax legislation, including VAT regulations.

  • Record financial transactions in the BAF accounting system and maintain up-to-date records.

  • Manage accounts payable, including verification of invoices and reconciliation with suppliers.

  • Review financial documents (invoices, service acts, delivery notes) for compliance with organizational policies.

  • Process payments through the client-bank system and reconcile bank statements.

  • Maintain financial documentation in electronic and paper formats in line with document retention procedures.

Tax Compliance

  • Ensure timely calculation and payment of taxes, fees, and social contributions.

  • Prepare and submit tax reports in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.

  • Monitor changes in tax and financial legislation and ensure compliance.

Fixed Assets and Inventory

  • Maintain accounting records for fixed assets and low-value assets (MNMA).

  • Prepare documentation related to asset acquisition, movement, and disposal.

  • Calculate depreciation and monitor asset useful life.

  • Participate in annual inventory and ensure proper accounting records.

  • Maintain accounting records for fuel usage within the BAF system.

Humanitarian Assistance Accounting

  • Maintain accounting records related to humanitarian and charitable assistance.

  • Provide financial data on distribution of humanitarian assistance across projects.

  • Prepare monthly reports on availability and distribution of humanitarian assistance.

Coordination and Administrative Support

  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure proper financial documentation for procurement and program activities.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing financial documentation.

  • Maintain organized financial records to ensure transparency and audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • Higher education in Finance, Accounting, or related field

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management, preferably in an international NGO or humanitarian context

  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems, financial management, and donor compliance

  • Experience with internal controls, audit preparation, and risk management

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and BAF accounting system

  • Knowledge of Ukrainian labor and tax legislation

  • Experience with M.E.Doc, Vchasno, client-bank electronic systems

  • Fluency in Ukrainian and good conversational English

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Experience working in NGOs

  • Experience supporting financial management capacity building
