Clinical Specialist: POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of the job — to support implementation of the CDC-funded Ukraine Recovery Project: «Enhancing Global Health Security and Strengthening Public Health Surveillance Systems and Preparedness Globally».

The Clinical Specialist will work closely with the Project Director and other relevant ICAP and Columbia University staff ensure that all technical matters related to implementation and reporting for the project are addressed.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Offer technical guidance and support for antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention control initiatives at national, regional (oblast), and healthcare facility levels.
• Engage with regional authorities and healthcare facilities to enhance antimicrobial resistance detection and response, support multidisciplinary teams' activities on sites, in development and implementation of quality improvement plans.
• Assist hospital staff in utilizing and interpreting antibiotic susceptibility tests, managing infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms and implementation infection prevention control measures.
• Provide expertise in developing training materials and promoting protocols for antibiotic use.
• Participate in crafting project work plans and compiling progress reports.
• Execute additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

• Medical doctors, biologists, pharmaceutical scientists, public health professionals.
• Knowledge and/or experience in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention control, infectious diseases is an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 5 years' experience in clinical medicine, pharmacy, or infection prevention control within healthcare area.
• Demonstrated experience in providing technical assistance/trainings and capacity building for healthcare workforce.
• Demonstrated knowledge/technical expertise in management of infections with resistant organisms.
• Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills in both English and Ukrainian, including the development of objectives, operational plans, and measurable targets for public health programs and projects.
• Experience working with the US government, and/or WHO agencies is an added advantage.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Domestic travel to project sites when necessary
