Functional Responsibilities, Full-Stack Engineer

Main objective: develop and launch Shop System — software for the repair shop (Modern Shop, Gary, IN) — covering both the company’s own fleet maintenance and Modern Shop’s outside repair-shop customers. Full ownership of architecture and code, using agentic AI tools (Cayu) to accelerate development.

• Own features end-to-end — from requirements through production — for both the company’s own fleet and Modern Shop’s outside customers.
• Work cross-functionally with the product lead, UI/UX designer, and users (mechanics, dispatchers, shop customers) to understand requirements and ship thoughtful solutions.
• Build and ship the AI harness: the data pipelines, schemas, validation, and feedback loops that let Cayu and other AI agents do work reliably at scale, not just one-off by hand.
• Start from the outcome, not the process: define success criteria and data for validation instead of hand-writing every line of logic, so AI agents can write and validate code against those criteria.
• Write high-quality, extensible code across component boundaries — from frontend to backend, infrastructure, and AI tooling.
• Engage in code reviews to maintain a high engineering bar.
• Lead technical discussions and documentation to arrive at the best architectural decisions.
• Adopt and champion AI development tools (Cayu and similar) to accelerate work — including helping the rest of the team ramp up on them.
• Promote better engineering practices, share technical knowledge, and contribute to team growth through feedback on product, process, and culture.
• 5+ years of commercial full-stack/backend development experience, with real experience shipping products at scale — not just educational or pet projects.
• Strong experience with a modern stack like TypeScript and tools such as GraphQL, Relay, React, and Node.js. — APIs, databases, distributed systems.
• Experience building products where business logic touches money and operations — orders, invoicing, payments — not just internal trackers.
• Hands-on experience with agentic AI development platforms (Cayu or similar) — real experience, not just code autocomplete.
• Comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders, proposing a technical solution to a business problem.
• Comfortable working independently and asynchronously with a remote team (Bishkek, ~11 hrs ahead of Chicago).
