Red Bull Teka KTM factory rider Max Nagl is on the road to recovery after two major back surgeries to correct an injury that flared up last MX1 season.

Max is now up and about following the second surgery but still has some convalescing to do before he is allowed to resume fitness training and to climb back on his KTM factory bike.

“It was an old injury and in the beginning I didn’t feel it, but then I put out the disk and I had pain for the rest of the season. This was disappointing because I felt that I could have easily been in the top three at the end of the season. I finished in the top five so that was still good,” he said in a recent interview.

Presently Max is restricted to bed rest and walking and had been off the bike since the end of the 2011 season, now almost six months. “This is a new experience for me,” he said. “At the moment I can only walk and rest.” Doctors have told him he will be able to begin fitness training in February and this he will do at the specialist Red Bull Training Centre in Austria from February 6. After that phase Max should be back on the bike for testing at the beginning of March. “Then I will test the 350 and the 450 bike and I will decide after which one I am going to ride in 2012."
