Developed a Braiding System for a titanium flexible hose. The Braiding System wove a Grade 5 titanium wire (0.12 mm diameter) sleeve around a corrugated hose that was 3D printed in Grade 5 titanium. The flexible hose project was part of a NASA R&D project to create a robot are for refueling satellites in orbit. Grade 5 titanium was selected for its superior corrosion resistance against the rocket propellant nitrogen tetroxide.
The Robotic Refueling Mission is a multi-phased International Space Station technology demonstration that is testing tools, technologies and techniques to refuel and repair satellites in orbit – especially satellites not designed to be serviced.
