Mid-level DevOps Engineer (SysOps)

A joint project of the two leaders in the telecommunications industry 1+1 media and Kyivstar is currently looking for a Mid-level DevOps Engineer (SysOps) who wants to become part of our team.

Kyivstar TV is a joint project of 1+1 Media and Kyivstar, launched on December 11, 2019. It is a film and television platform that provides users access to hundreds of thousands of hours of Ukrainian and world content and live programs. It also regularly offers exclusive projects for viewing. The platform has over 410 TV channels and a VOD library of 20,000 movies, series, cartoons, and shows. Its advantage is connecting up to 5 personalized profiles on different devices: smartphone, tablet, laptop, Smart TV, or set-top box. The multi-profile feature lets you easily switch between adult and children’s profiles. Kyivstar TV is available for all mobile operators in Ukraine and all Internet providers.

Key responsibilities:

• Building scalable, highly available, fault tolerant bare-metal and the cloud-based software platforms;
• Configure and maintain Linux servers, networks, storage and compute resources;
• Systematically design and implement fully automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions / GitLab CI).
• Automate deployment and configuration via IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Set up monitoring, alerting and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Zabbix, DataDog, etc.).
• Ensure backup, disaster recovery and high availability.
• Conduct incident analysis and «post-mortems», system performance tuning.
• Ensure infrastructure security (IAM, Security Groups, WAF, hardening, secrets management).
• Integrate the infrastructure with Java applications and databases.
• Controlling performance and health, improving platform reliability.

Perfect candidate would have:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience as a DevOps or SysOps Engineer in large-scale, high-load production environments.
• Deep knowledge of the Linux system (RHEL / Ubuntu) base and network infrastructure (networking, storage, systemd);
• Practical experience with distributed hardware platforms and cloud services (preferably AWS);
• Practical experience and basic understanding containerization systems (LXC, Docker, Nomad);
• Understanding of the principles of High Availability, Backup & Recovery, and Disaster Recovery.
• Basic understanding of working with databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse) at the level of connection, monitoring and basic diagnostics.
• Experience with configuration management/IaC tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc.);
• Understanding of the CI/CD process, experience in creating and implementing (Jenkins, Gitlab-CI, etc.);
• Practical experience with deployment and support monitoring and log management tools (ELK + Grafana — required);
• Knowledge of the network protocols and web standards, understanding of the principles of non-destructive system testing.
• Experience in finding errors and assessing their critical impact on a real production environment

Would be plus:

• Practical programming experience (Bash, Python, Golang, Ruby, etc.);
• Support of NoSQL/SQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, Solr, PgSQL, etc.);
• Understanding of Kubernetes (EKS); practical experience would be an advantage.
• Experience working with Kafka, Redis, RabbitMQ / SQS.
• Experience with migrations from on-premise to cloud and hybrid environments.
• Solid knowledge of the practical application of the network stack and GitOps processes.
• Experience with Java applications (understanding of the JVM, memory tuning, logs).
• Experience supporting High Availability (HA) Java-based applications and services
