As the company continues to grow, we are looking for aSenior Regulatory Research Specialist to support our expanding product portfolio and international operations. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive professional who is passionate about regulatory compliance, enjoys working with complex documentation and legislation, and can help ensure our products meet the requirements of multiple international markets.
Job Duties:
- Ensure products meet regulatory standards under both the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) requirements
- Research, monitor and interpret federal and provincial/state regulations applicable to home goods in both markets
- Review supplier and import documentation to confirm products meet both Canadian, U.S. entry requirements including other countries we may export to and import from
- Manage Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and customs documentation for cross-border shipments
- Ensure product design, labelling, and testing align with applicable acts, regulations, and standards before goods enter either market
- Stay updated on changing regulations and international standards; conduct risk assessments and review technical documentation across both the Canadian and U.S. regulatory landscapes
- Record all compliance activities and respond to any compliance related complaints
- Monitor CPSC and Health Canada recall databases and safety bulletins to proactively identify risks relevant to our product lines
- Work closely with product development and supply chain teams to address compliance issues and contribute to developing company policies
- Collaborate with product development team to integrate safety requirements into the initial design phase to ensure «compliance by design»
- Serve as the primary point of contact between internal teams and regulatory bodies in both Canada and the U.S.
- Ensure country of origin marking requirements are met for applicable goods in both countries
- Ensure Canadian and U.S. labelling requirements are met separately, as products sold in both countries must comply with each country’s distinct labelling rules
Requirements:
- High proficiency to read, research, interpret, and apply complex regulatory legislation to our products/lines
- Intermediate understanding of the English language — reading, written and spoken
- 2−4 years of experience in product compliance, regulatory affairs, or quality assurance (consumer/home goods preferred)
Skills & Experience:
- Experience managing compliance across both Canadian and U.S. markets strongly preferred
- Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
- Reviewing and maintaining compliance documentation — test reports, risk assessments, technical files etc
- Experience with import/export documentation and cross-border shipping compliance
- Understanding of product labelling requirements for both Canada and the U.S
- Experience working within GSuite and using AI tools to assist in daily work
- Clear written and verbal communication to relay compliance requirements across teams
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with design, sourcing and other teams as needed
- Demonstrated knowledge of CCPSA — Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, Health Canada guidelines, CPSC regulations, and relevant ASTM-American Society for Testing and Materials/CSA- Canadian Standards Association/UL standards
Nice to Have:
- Professional certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent
- Knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and customs requirements
